Thank you for taking the time to read about me! I'm an Art educator living in Sherman Oaks, CA. I like to spend my free time drawing or eating Korean BBQ with my friends. Some of my interests include collecting books, playing video games, and visiting museums. I also enjoy building sets for local theater productions. Mostly though, I aspire to work with students and support them in their creative pursuits.
Often, my mind races about lesson ideas or topics that I can't wait to share with my students! I get very excited about art and think it has an inherent bond to education. To me, art is a means of understanding the importance of trial and error. It's a process that taught me perseverance and rewarded my hard work. I want to provide that experience for students. I imagine an environment where students feel emboldened to take creative risks and push themselves into unfamiliar territory. My students should feel comfortable making mistakes and then asking themselves, "What did I learn from that?"
I strongly believe this mindset will give my students a pathway for personal growth. However, I think art's true power lies in its ability to bring communities together and uplift leaders from within. My classroom is a reflection of this. It's not enough for my students to just follow directions and get good grades. I push my students to guide one another. Teaching my students to lead by example or make level-headed decisions are examples of skills I can be confident will benefit them and the community long after they leave my classroom.
